"SEE-THROUGH" Meeting at The ICON 6.26.2010

          Artists collaborating in the "See-Through" Exhibition workshop met with Shinsuke Shimojo on Saturday June 26th, 2010 at The ICON to discuss the progress of their proposals and listen to Professor Shimojo give a lecture on various topics such as the Troxler Effect, the Stroop Effect, the Ventriloquist Effect, Sound localization- (how audition affects vision), color theories and a discussion about  "Where does transparency come from?" Professor Shimojo also discussed David Katz and showed images of work by James Turrell. Peter Mays, Director of Gallery 825/LAAA attended as well as introduced Professor Shimojo and gave encouraging remarks to the artists. Artists selected to participate include:

             Hosting the meeting on Saturday morning, members of the Fine Art Production Team for The ICON in Los Angeles gave a tour of the photographic lab, studios and gallery and discussed ways the artists/photographers in the group could consult with the fine art team in order to obtain the finest quality images and prints for their upcoming show. The ICON Customer Service Team was identified as Ken Thomas, Khodr Cherri and Heather Rasmussen. The ICON Fine Art Production Team was identified as Brian Toro, print production coordinator, Paul Batoon, Master printer and Terry Newgard, retoucher and print specialist. The ICON is located at 5450 Wilshire Blvd. in Los Angeles, California 90036 (323-933-1666) The ICON is a collaborator for the Cal Tech Brain Art Project with Cal Tech and Gallery 825/LAAA.

            Los Angeles Art Association, The California Institute of Technology, and The ICON LA are proud to present SEE-THROUGH, a collaborative workshop and exhibit exploring the intersection between photography and neuroscience through the investigation of sensory filters, such as vision, audition and touch, that form our perceptual experiences. Selected participants will create new and experimental photographic works based on insights gained through a collaborative process with Prof. Shinsuke Shimojo of Caltech, a world-renowned researcher and expert in field of vision, perception and cognitive neuroscience. 
Selected participants  are collaborating with other LAAA artists and 
Prof. Shinsuke Shimojo from June through August 2010.
